A publishing house.
A longer horizon.
BurrowsHallow begins with books, writers, and readers. Its ambition reaches beyond a single list or a single language.
Publishing as a form of attention.
We are building an independent press for fiction, nonfiction, poetry, translation, and selected educational work. The editorial standard is care: to find writing worth sharing, work closely with its makers, and help it find readers.
Toward a literary institution.
Over time, we hope to develop the BurrowsHallow Literary Institute or Foundation: a home for international literary prizes, translation, Chinese language and English language literature, and awards for emerging writers. This is a long-term ambition, not a program already in operation.
Our first writing prize is a modest beginning. Final editorial decisions will always be made by people; administrative tools may help organize submissions, never decide what literature is worth reading.
